Garam masala means 'warm spice blend' — but its history, regional variations and family recipes tell a much richer story.
What 'garam' really means
In Ayurveda, 'garam' refers to spices that warm the body — not chilli heat. Garam masala is about cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and pepper, spices believed to raise the body's internal warmth.
A blend of many hands
There is no single garam masala recipe. Every region, and often every family, has its own closely guarded proportions passed down through generations.
Regional variations
North Indian blends lean warm and sweet, while some regional versions add fennel, nutmeg or mace for extra complexity.
The Taaza blend
Our garam masala roasts and grinds 13 whole spices to a heirloom recipe — balanced, aromatic and finished the traditional way.
